Still Against the Sky 1-3 (2015) literally and symbolically turns in on itself. It is a deep sky meditation, a pleated map of the galaxy that acts as an intimate as well as infinite space. It may be opened out, explored and placed into one’s back pocket or turned over to reflect sunlight, misleading the roving eye of a drone’s camera. Each individual star has been carefully etched onto transfer paper, lending an embossed relief quality to this delicate view of the cosmos. Still Against the Sky 1-3 embodies the artist’s signature exploration of the relationship between the infinite and the intimate.
