Video Installation Project

Hajra Waheed’s multi-channel Video Installation Project (2011- 2013) expands her ongoing inquiry of the gaze and practices of documentation as a means of collecting and celebrating seemingly lost moments. Challenging herself to capture beauty in the mundane, surprises in everyday routine and minor moments within the constraints of censorship laws, each of the un-staged works act as single pages of a running multi-page diary, where the spectacular and mundane collide to form a series of ‘magic moments’ – in which polarized entities collaborate and co-exist seamlessly.

Hajra Waheed presents each of the works as singular moments embedded into individual handmade walnut cases with accompanying mono-pod hearing devices. Mounted on the wall, viewers must peer into each viewing apparatus while listening in as a means of experiencing each captured moment. Strung together loosely and accumulated over time to form dozens of such vignettes, viewers get an intimate glimpse into the artists’ world, one which constructs ways of seeing that are as active as they are deeply personal.
